Born in Zürich, and living in Walyalup – Fremanlte, Valerie Schoenjahn is an emerging artist, with a background in the architectural profession and a passion for the garden. With an inquisitive nature, her contemporary arts practice is rooted in experimenting and interrogating the things closest to her, be those tactile or from her emotional landscape. Arising out of a personal dialogue, she creates visual conversations through hand formed vessels and found and collected materials. Setting scenes that become a reflection of human nature, our needs, desires and dreams.
Her work is explorative, and while porcelain often plays a dominant role, she likes to include other mediums and work at variable scales.
Valerie was a participant in the Minnawarra Art Awards (2021), and the Busselton Awards `Showcase´(2020) and was a finalist of the York Botanic Art Prize (2021). In 2021 she created a temporary public art commission for the City of South Perth and undertook a residency with ART ON THE MOVE. She has been part of group exhibitions in both Melbourne and Perth. Recently she was the inaugural recipient of the ‘Emerging Artist Award’ for Sculpture at Bathers, Fremantle (2022) and the ‘Best Sculpture Award’ for the Darlington Art Walk, Darlington (2022).
