Elizabeth Lewis is a Sydney based emerging artist, having completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at UNSW Art + Design in 2020, minoring in painting and ceramics. Her expanded ceramic practice is characterised by hard -to -grasp feelings of curiosity and nostalgia, referencing craft and modern mythology. Explored through meditations on colour, unlikely symmetry, self – referential language and intuition, the result is highly stylised objects and vessels. She is interested in utilising materiality and the basis of vessel forms to examine how objects can reflect and contribute to a greater sense of wonder and connectedness with history. Elizabeth uses practice- led explorations of collage, coiling and hand building techniques to create her work. A Kil.n.it Studios alumni, her work has exhibited across Australia and internationally.
Embroidered Vases are influenced by notions of craft and utility in historical artefacts. These vessels reflect function and garish decoration, marrying 18th century textiles and contemporary ceramics. Embroidered vases were first exhibited at Meroogal House museum in 2022, as part of the Meroogal Women’s art prize.
